A bit of Horn Lake history
Named for an ox-bow lake three miles west, a former bend of the Mississippi River cut off in the late 18th century and shaped like a cow horn. A first incorporation attempt failed in 1850; the railroad reached town in 1856. Remained rural until the 1970s, then grew from 2,170 (1970) to 26,736 (2020) as a Memphis suburb directly south of the state line.
For owners that translates to a buy-and-hold market: values are up about 28% over five years, and 60% of homes are owner-occupied, so a rental that does come open tends to draw long-term, well-qualified residents. The last twelve months have been flat to slightly soft, in line with the wider for-sale market. That is the honest near-term picture; the five-year trend is the one that has paid owners here.
