A bit of Oakland history
Established 1830 along the Stage Road running from Memphis through Raleigh to Somerville. Dr. James A. Hunter built the first house and opened the first dry-goods store. Boomed after the four-lane expansion of U.S. Highway 64 in the early 1990s, growing 417% from 2000 to 2020.
