The neighborhood developed rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s alongside the Hickory Ridge Mall, which opened in 1981 and was demolished in 2016 after years of decline. Today the area is anchored by the Hickory Ridge Town Center retail district and a dense mix of single-family subdivisions, apartment complexes, and the Mall of Memphis site.</p>
