Developed on the former estate of Clarence Saunders (Piggly Wiggly founder), whose ornamental garden lake remains the neighborhood's centerpiece. Built out 1925-1960s with homes by prominent local architect George Mahan. Street names (Cherokee, Iroquois, Chickasaw Pkwy, Catawba) honor Native American tribes. Long considered one of Memphis's most prestigious enclaves.
